Mead update! My house smells amazing. I’ve left the bucket of juice alone for the last week, only opening once a day to stir. It’s turned a bright pink color I wasn’t expecting since blackberries are very dark fruit.

The yeast is going to town on the sugars. A solid half of the berries have just disappeared, eaten by the yeast. I’ve been stirring it everyday because as the yeast eats the sugars it creates gases which push the berries up the surface away from the yeast. Stirring reincorporates the berries and gives the yeast more opportunities to feed.

I got to go to the brewery store and purchase a siphon for moving all the juice to its new home in the sanitized 1 gallon jar. The airlock has been transferred back into the jar lid. The jar shall live in a cool dark place for the next little while until we’re ready to bottle. (Or until we add more blackberries for more flavor. I saw a mead tiktok and want to try it). The next mead update might not be for a month or so while it sits and does its thing.
